Buy-One-Get-One-Free Golf Marketing

Buy one, get one free (a.k.a. buy one, take one) is a golf marketing promotion offer made to golfers in which the purchase of one golf product or golf service is encouraged or rewarded by providing a second of the same golf product or golf service free of charge.

Buy-one- get-one-free golf marketing campaigns can be very successful. One of the things that you want to keep in mind when doing this type of golf marketing promotion is you never say 2-for-1 because the idea of doing a buy one take one is to get the golfer or as many golfers to purchase the product. You don’t want them to be able to buy one and give one to a friend because then you cut down your potential market and sales.

When you are dealing with the public, one of the key things always to remember is the old adage “birds of a feather flock together”. That means when you are marketing to one golfer that fits your profile, more likely than not, his or her friends will be very close to fitting that same profile.

People associate and socialize with people that are like them. For example, a golfer who earns $100,000 a year is not likely to socialize with a golfer who earns $20,000 a year. A golfer who enjoys the game of golf is more likely than not to have friends who play the game of golf as well.

You should make sure when the golfer buys the promotional golf product and/or golf service, he/she can get the one for free but it cannot be given to another golfer. You never want to shorten or minimize your market of prospective golfers.

The idea of golf marketing is marketing to the masses and you want to capture and engage as many golfers as possible. If the golf product or golf service has monetary value and the goal is to get golfers to bring in other golfers then you can use the “buy one get one free” golf marketing promotion to draw more golfers.

An example of this (exception to the rule) might be a cart pass “buy a week day cart pass and get one free”. There is a good chance you can get the golfer to bring in some of his/her buddies and give them that cart pass or you can even set up the golf marketing promotion in a way that when you’re setting up your golf marketing campaigns and golf promotions you are able to use the “buy one get one free” to drive traffic to your golf course by requiring the free cart pass to go to a non-member or first time golfer. Just keep in mind what your desired result is and stay focused on that.
