Tactics as defined by www.wikipedia.com are actionable steps or decisions made in order to follow the strategies…
In the past, you have heard me say, “To be successful you never want to follow the trend”. The successful people are the people who can determine which direction the trend is going and get out ahead of the trend.
This is one of the many reasons why I say, studying not only market demographics, psychographics, etc., is extremely important but also studying history along with the other subjects as equally important. When it comes to golf course marketing to know the future trends and to get out ahead of them is one of the keys to a long-term success. You must know the past; you have to know where you’ve been or where the golf industry began to know where it is going.
To do this, simply go back and look at the history of the golf business. When you start to look at what has taken place as far as trends in the past you will know what trends are going to be manifested in the future.
Take the fashion industry for example; if you look back you will see a tendency for designers to go back through the decades of the past. You notice designs come back from the 60’s and then they will take ideas from the 70’s, the 80’s and so on.
Note that they don’t go back and just completely copy the fashion but they take bits and pieces of it and add it to modern times. This is the same thing you want to do with trends in the golf industry. Think about what has happened in the past; follow the history of the golf business through the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s and so on.
Look at what took place within the golf industry and try to forecast what you believe it’s going to do in the future.
