Let’s face it; territory planning is probably not going to be an issue for most golf course marketers. But if you take this concept and put a spin on it by thinking of each task of golf marketing and distributing them among the golf course’s staff, you can start to see the potential of your golf marketing efforts becoming more effective in your golf marketing and golf professional sales career. Let me show you how.
You can take this concept of territorial planning and apply it to your everyday business activities. Territory planning at its root is when companies cut out a territory for each representative within a geographical area. But if you are a creative thinker, you can utilize the same concept and twist it to make it applicable to your golf course.
There are several different aspects of golf marketing and golf professional sales when it comes to acquiring new golfers. One of them is prospecting. One of the things you can do is you can take your staff and divide them by giving each one of the staff members a specific area to concentrate on in acquiring new golfers.
For example, let’s say you only have a staff of three people. You can take one of the staff and have him/her call all of the businesses in your area this month. You can procure a business list online or from your local Chamber of Commerce or even the yellow pages. Make a simple script for him/her just introducing the golf course and finding out who is the person in charge of human resources, the president/CEO or the general manager. If the key person is reachable, have him/her call them up and introduce the golf courses and say he/she would like to send them some free information on improving their game or anything to get the door open. Just be creative and make sure it is something that the customer wants. Then your staff follows up with an email, making sure they received it. You can also invite them out for an outing, lunch or some type of social function.
While your someone from your staff is doing that, the next person will be responsible for calling all of the organizations within your area by putting together the same type of package and so on. If you are the golf pro, maybe you are in-charge of putting together a golf marketing campaign for the website, the newspaper, etc., because it would be easy for you to put together a blog on golf lessons or anything educational for your golfing community.
If you learn how to be imaginative with territory planning within your golf course, you will start to grow your golf course, the game and your golf career.
