Tactics as defined by www.wikipedia.com are actionable steps or decisions made in order to follow the strategies…
The future is for those who prepare for it. Most people quit learning on a massive scale the day they leave school. It doesn’t matter whether it is the kid who drops out of high school, the youngster that graduates from high school but does not go on to college, or even those young adults who do attend an institution of higher learning; most people will stop their aggressive learning the day school is out. So even if you hold a degree in a given field but you fail to advance your education every day; you too, are a drop out; only now you have chosen to drop out of life and all it has to offer.
At this point in their life, when people quit acquiring new knowledge they have made an unconscious decision to start dying. If you are not growing, you are dying, plain and simple. It is impossible to compete and emerge victorious with obsolete ideas. Continued education is an absolute must in every field including golf marketing. The advances in technology, psychology and the sciences are astronomical and are happening at the speed of light. This is why I am so against people trying to wear too many hats in any business. It is impossible to stay abreast of all aspects of any business. You will inevitably soon fall into the category of “Jack of all trades and master of none”.
Golf course marketing requires tunnel and funnel vision. After your formal education you must focus 80% of your efforts, and continued education, in your chosen field. Never forget “where your focus goes, your energy will flow”. This, in itself will tell you if you are the right person to be responsible for increasing rounds and implementing your golf marketing campaigns. Let me explain; if you think about new creative ways to increase revenue, increase rounds, grow the business, golf marketing, professional golf membership sales techniques, etc., at least 80% of the time during the average day, then you are the right person for the job. If not, step aside and ask for help from someone who lives, eats and breathes golf marketing and golf course professional sales; because if you don’t love it, you will never be great at it.
I always hear the word genius thrown around when someone is doing something extraordinary. I think genius is, simply loving something so much, you are consumed by it. Musicians like Stevie Ray Vaughn and Hendrix were just a couple of guys that “loved music and their vehicle of choice to deliver their music was guitar. Everybody still today say they were “gifted” or they were “musical geniuses”, when in fact they were just a couple of guys that spent 80% of their time focused on learning and honing in their skill set.
Spend most of your time honing and growing your golf marketing skills through continued education and you will grow your golf course and your golf career.
