New Golf Paradigms Go Through 3 Stages
1) Ridicule – it’s too far outside-the-box – it will ruin the golf industry.
2) Opposition – it goes against some pros, managers and owners convictions/beliefs – this will never work…its giving golf away.
3) Acceptance – it’s impossible to ignore the facts…over 150 golf courses have been catapulted into success with increased revenue, rounds and golfer loyalty.
The golf industry has been going through the five stages of grief over the loss of rounds and revenue since the early-2000s. The golf industry will never be as it was pre-millennium. The “old” way of operating a golf course is exactly that…the old way. Golf courses must accept and embrace the new paradign for doing business post-millennium.
Just because you change the presentation does not mean you have to change the industry. Re-packaging the product is just that…re-packaging. If the re-packaging is done well enough it may even convince seasoned veterans (Pros, Managers and Owners) the industry has changed when in fact, all that has changed is the way the product is presented. This minor adjustment is enough to rejuvenate interest in the game.
The revenue is the same and/or better than it ever was. The only aspect that changes is you are now serving more golfers.
